2-19-25 — Our world is changing rapidly. Nonprofits of every kind—whether environmental, cultural, health-focused, educational, or social service organizations like ours—are bracing for cuts to funding, staffing, and programs.
Some changes are mandated by the government or in response to it, but the result is the same: fewer resources for those who need them most at a time when people’s needs are increasing.
More will lose jobs and homes and the ability to stay financially afloat. More will see essential support programs disappear. More will struggle to pay their utility bills, cope with a major medical issue or face a personal crisis that won’t make the news but will upend their lives. The needs in our own community are growing and so are requests for assistance.
But here’s the good news: The Samaritans are not changing. Nor are our Salem partners. We are still here, responding to emergency and unusual requests, filling the gaps where no other help exists. As need increases, so does our commitment.
There are holes in the safety net. Please help us fill them.
